Camille Bambois b. 1883 d, 1970 French
Painter, Veteran

Camille Bambois dedicated his life to the craft of painting; he was incredibly prolific, creating hundreds of works during his lifetime. The venerable German art dealer and collector, Wilhelm Uhde was instrumental in the trajectory of Camille Bambois' career with the inclusion of his paintings in the now infamous exhibition 'Maitres populaires de la realite' in 1937. This exhibition brought critical acclaim to the Naive technique, which is now regarded as major style in the Modernist Movement. Bambois inclusion in 'Maitres populaires de la realite' cemented his place amongst Henri Rousseau in the pioneer collegiate of Naive style artists. True to the Naive style, his pictorial observation of genre scenes and French landscapes present Bambois' unique language, described as the delineation of form, luminous colour saturation and concentration to detail. Bombois' works are on view in many public collections, notably the Musee Maillol in Paris and are held in several private collections worldwide.
